SKYBOLT BIPLANE FUSELAGE RECOVER SPRING 2010

This was a fun job.  Steve Wolf of Wolf Aircraft did a pre-buy on this aircraft and found that the cotton covering on the fuselage was bad.  It was easy to see when the buyer leaned his knee into the side of the fuselage and his knee went through the fabric!!  Steve talked with the buyer and they decided to have me complete the necessary work.  This included a complete fuselage recover, new sheet metal sides back to the aft cockpit, new radio tray installation and paint work.  Steve handled the spray gun.

The airplane flew in from south Florida.  I got to work stripping it down.  This is what a Skybolt looks like with no clothes on.
Bottom covering going on
Fuselage fabric going on
Getting ready for reinforcing tapes on vert stab
All pinked up!  First coat as I recall
The master, Steve Wolf giving a quick demo on bending sheet metal.  Steve and I share a hangar and I am very fortunate to be able to learn something new from him everyday.
New sheet metal going back to the turtle deck.
Paint matched up perfect with panels up front.
Nut plates in bottom sheet keeps fastners on bottom where they are not seen. Makes for a clean look.
This turned out very nice, the owners took some time to have Steve check them out and then they flew to California with no problems.  It's nice to have jobs go as good as this one did.
